With the Apple iPad 2, we have another example of how effectively Apple markets its products. The iPad2 was released before the buzz over the first Ipad died down making people wonder what the differences were between the two. The following review covers some of the main features of the iPad2 which should be helpful if you are considering upgrading from the original iPad or purchasing the iPad2.

Video chatting with FaceTime is one feature that the iPad 2 allows that you cannot do on the original iPad. This is one feature that is quickly becoming wildly popular because it allows you to see the person to whom you’re talking in real time.

The iPad 2 has HD cameras in both the front and back; the front lets you see your friend’s face and the back is great for location photography if that is something in which you are interested. You can use the Photo Booth app to take pictures of yourself or your friends with your iPad. Of course, FaceTime is also available on iPhones and Mac computers, so you wouldn’t go out and buy an iPad for this feature alone.

AirPlay is a feature that makes it simple to stream anything from your iPad to your HDTV or speakers. So when you find something on your iPad like a video you want to watch on a different device all you have to do is tap your AirPlay icon. The only catch is that if you want AirPlay to work, you also need Apple TV which is a separate device that costs around a hundred dollars. Apple TV also lets you stream the content of your iPhone or your iPod Touch to your HDTV too. For example, if you like to watch videos on YouTube, you can send them from your iPad to the larger television screen.

There was a lot of criticism over the fact that the original iPad didn’t have a camera. This was fixed with the iPad2 which now gives you two cameras, one in the back and one in the front. Unfortunately, this still may not satisfy many users, as these cameras are not very high quality. These will work fine for your basic photos or chatting with friends on Facetime, but don’t have expectations for high quality photos or videos. Many won’t consider this a serious flaw since mobile phones have cameras and serious photographers will already have their own camera equipment.

The Apple iPad 2 is a super gadget with lots of appeal built into it; when you see it advertised or see other people using it it’s easy to decide that you want one too. However, it’s also something that you can probably get by without, especially if you have a smart phone or notebook computer. Whether or not the Apple iPad 2 is a worthy investment is dependent upon how much you value its design, entertainment and convenience factors.
